How to add widgets on Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones

Use the Xiaomi home-screen edit mode, confirm placement and solve the common issue of an app not appearing in the widget list.

Quick answer

On Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones using HyperOS, open home-screen editing mode and look for the Widgets option. Depending on the phone and launcher version, the menu may differ from Pixel or Samsung examples. Choose a widget with enough free grid space, then confirm the installed app appears in the picker. If the preview is blank or static, check the widget's configuration and data source separately from placement.

Enter the home-screen editing mode

On many Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones, pinch inward with two fingers on the home screen or press and hold an empty area. Choose Widgets from the editing controls. Find a widget, select it, move it to the desired home-screen position and confirm the layout if your phone shows a checkmark.

The last confirmation step matters: on some Xiaomi devices, selecting a widget does not finish the edit until you apply the changed home-screen layout. Xiaomi describes a checkmark on the upper-right side in its Xiaomi 14T Pro instructions. Other models and software versions may present slightly different controls.

Why you might not see the app's widget

An installed app is not guaranteed to include a home-screen widget. Open the picker's full list rather than assuming that long-pressing the app icon will show every option. Xiaomi's POCO support guidance notes that not all apps provide widgets.

If the app claims to support a widget but it is still missing, make sure it has completed any required first-run setup. Restart the app and check for an app update from the official store. Try a known built-in widget so you can distinguish a launcher problem from a single app's problem.

Choose a layout that leaves enough space

A large calendar or information widget requires a free block of home-screen cells. Move icons temporarily or place the widget on another page. Some HyperOS versions offer different home-screen densities; a denser icon layout can change how much room appears available.

Do not assume a widget is broken just because it is rejected on a crowded page. Try a smaller widget or a cleaner page. For the bigger picture, read our Android widget size guide and resizing guide.

Confirm that the widget actually works

Return home after editing, leave the screen and come back. Check whether the widget is still visible. If it is a live-information widget, see whether its value changes under normal conditions; an empty weather or calendar panel may need a separate data-source check.

If it disappears after a restart, follow widgets disappearing after restart. If it is present but blank, use blank widget troubleshooting. Avoid uninstalling an app with local widget designs until you know how to preserve them.
