Editorial disclosure

WidgetCraft is made by the team behind this website. We list it first as our own widget builder, explain its limits, and link to competing apps when they are a better fit. This comparison uses publicly described features, not independent hands-on testing.

A clock widget should be readable before it is decorative

The best Android clock widget is the one you can read in a glance. Some people want large numerals with no background. Others need a second time zone or the next alarm. A beautiful static clock illustration is not enough if its numbers never change.

Our first option is WidgetCraft if you want to design the clock's layout yourself. DIGI Clock Widget is more direct if all you need is a configurable digital clock, Chronus combines time with other information, and Muviz Widgets provides several predesigned clock styles.

1. WidgetCraft — best for a clock you design yourself

WidgetCraft: Widget Maker is our app. Its native editor supports text, shapes and configurable clock/date elements, making it a fit for a very large number display, a compact date below the time or a customized arrangement of supported information. It is a builder rather than a single-purpose digital clock application.

Confirm the clock element is connected to a live time source rather than manually typed example text. Availability of the public app should also be checked at its Play listing. For styling ideas, see clock widget layouts and example data versus live data.

2. DIGI Clock Widget — best for a ready-to-use digital display

DIGI Clock Widget offers several sizes, independent colors for time and date, a choice of fonts, background opacity and configurable 12-hour or 24-hour display. Its current listing also describes seconds on supported widget sizes.

This is a good first download when you want a digital clock and would rather change settings than draw a design. It does not aim to be an all-purpose editor for unrelated widget types.

3. Chronus Information Widgets — best for clock plus information

Chronus Information Widgets combines digital or analog clock designs with other useful information such as weather, upcoming calendar items and tasks. Its listed options suit someone who wants one informative panel instead of several independent tiles.

Because Chronus shows multiple kinds of data, extra setup may be needed for the sources you enable. A combined widget can become crowded when placed in a small grid area. Some layouts and style controls belong to its paid tier.

4. Muviz Widgets — best for familiar Pixel and Material-style clocks

Muviz Widgets advertises Pixel-inspired, Material You, retro and other clock styles, along with an in-app customization editor. Choose it if you like the look of a modern system clock but want a different style from your phone's built-in option.

The collection includes more than clocks, although the exact set available may change. You should compare the current clock previews with the wallpaper and icon layout you use.

Make a clock work on the actual home screen

Leave enough width for the time to change from 9:59 to 10:00 without clipping. Decide whether the date truly needs to appear beside the clock. If you use AM/PM, make it subordinate to the digits. For darker wallpapers, test a light type color; for bright photographs, add contrast behind the text.

A normal clock widget should continue to show the correct time when you return to the home screen. If it freezes or displays an unexpected zone, follow our wrong clock time guide and widget refresh troubleshooting.

Quick choice: build your own with WidgetCraft; choose DIGI for a simple digital widget, Chronus for a multi-information panel, or Muviz for ready-made clock styles. We have compared documented features, not measured their timing or battery performance ourselves.
