Import and edit widget templates safely

Choose a useful starting layout, understand sample data and keep your own copy editable.

Quick answer

Importing a widget template copies or opens a starting design; it does not guarantee that example numbers, personal data or third-party services will work immediately. Treat the template as something to inspect and adapt.

Look at the design, not just the thumbnail

A template is a starting point. Before importing one, check what information it is meant to show and whether its aspect ratio suits the space on your launcher. A tall quote template may not translate well to a wide battery panel. Look for editable layers if you want to change fonts, photos and spacing rather than accept a flattened picture.

WidgetCraft can load online templates from its GitHub-hosted collection. Categories and search help with discovery, and downloaded templates have local copies. A website illustration is not a guarantee that a particular template already exists in the live catalogue.

Try it on your home screen

  1. Check the template's aspect ratio against your launcher space before importing.
  2. Inspect whether the design uses static examples or components tied to device data.
  3. Replace demonstration photos and labels with content you have permission to use.
  4. Save a copy of the finished layout, then install it on the home screen for a real check.

Check whether values are examples

A template may display a handsome clock, battery number or step count using sample data. That makes the preview easier to understand, but the display will not become live until the supported component is configured for real data. Check the source and any permissions before placing the widget.

Save your own version

Import the design, change one meaningful element, and save it in your Gallery under a name you will recognize. Keep the first version until you confirm the new layout works. Existing saved designs do not automatically become cloud backups.

In the free WidgetCraft app, each new online template import requires you to choose and finish a rewarded ad. A local per-template unlock is kept for that same import. Pro removes that import requirement; neither path means you buy a separate Pro app. For layout tweaks, start with type and spacing.

Check the result

An imported layout can appear complete while missing a calendar account or live weather source. Also check whether fonts, image assets or companion applications are required by the template. In WidgetCraft Free, verify the current rewarded-ad import requirement and any local unlock before importing several online templates.

Common question: Will a purchased or imported template automatically sync my data?

Not necessarily. Data permissions, accounts, connectivity and supported components still need to be configured for the installed widget.
