WidgetCraft is made by the team behind this website. We list it first as our own widget builder, explain its limits, and link to competing apps when they are a better fit. This comparison uses publicly described features, not independent hands-on testing.
What do you want to replace about KWGT?
KWGT Kustom Widget Maker is a powerful widget engine, with a detailed editor, formulas, images, touch actions and third-party preset packs. Its strengths are also why some people search for alternatives: they may want a simpler editor, fewer setup steps or a standalone widget pack.
Our first choice is WidgetCraft if you want to build your own widgets with a different editing approach. Minimal Widgets, Something OS Widgets and Chronus are alternatives for people who would rather select a finished utility widget than design from a blank canvas.
1. WidgetCraft — best for a different visual editing workflow
WidgetCraft: Widget Maker is our Android app. Its native canvas uses visual layers, shapes, typography and supported data components, offering a different path from assembling an elaborate KWGT formula-driven layout. If you prefer positioning objects directly and designing a single clean widget, it is worth evaluating.
It is not a drop-in replacement for every advanced KWGT capability. Do not assume it imports KWGT preset files, runs KWGT formulas or supports every third-party pack. Also check the app's current Google Play listing: a public release has not been independently confirmed for the journal.
2. Minimal Widgets — best for avoiding the editor altogether
Minimal Widgets is a standalone widget collection according to its developer, with color controls and premade clock, calendar, photo and utility options. If you are leaving KWGT because you are tired of editing layouts, this is the simplest kind of alternative.
The compromise is flexibility. You can adjust the provided designs, but a preset pack is not intended to reproduce the full blank-canvas workflow of KWGT.
3. Something OS Widgets — best for an integrated visual collection
Something OS Widgets advertises resizable minimalist widgets, opacity controls, Material You support and clock, battery, calendar and other modules. It operates standalone without a companion widget engine.
It is especially attractive if the Nothing-inspired style already suits your wallpaper. Check availability of individual modules and whether any require a paid tier.
4. Chronus — best when data is more important than drawing
Chronus Information Widgets combines clock, weather, calendar, tasks and news widgets with configuration options. It is an alternative for people who installed KWGT mainly to put practical information on the home screen.
Chronus does not replace KWGT's entire design canvas; instead, it offers a suite of information widgets. If your goal is complex formulas and a custom visual language, KWGT itself may remain the stronger tool.
Should you stay with KWGT?
Stay with KWGT if you already have favorite community presets, complex formula logic or Tasker-connected behavior that your setup depends on. Changing engines can mean rebuilding those widgets rather than importing them. Confirm the requirements of each pack, since some require KWGT Pro.
Try a standalone collection if you want a finished design, or a custom editor if you specifically want to create your own style. For planning your first build, see widget elements explained and your first custom widget.
Our recommendation: WidgetCraft leads as our own visual builder alternative, but it is not presented as feature-for-feature compatible with KWGT. Minimal Widgets and Something OS are easier routes to presets; Chronus is more directly focused on data widgets.
